NFSS Facility & Operations

Facility:

The NFSS base of operations is located at Herlong Airport on the west end of the field.  Looking toward the west along the runway 07-25 taxiway, you'll see our blue trailor surrounded on two sides by parked sailplanes.  The trailor is the site of  pre- and post-flight training sessions, as well as monthly club meetings, cookouts, and a lot of pre- and post-flight "hanging-out".

Operations:

As we are conveniently located just off the runway 07-25 taxiway,  we have easy access to the adjacent grassy areas which we use for takeoff and landing. All tows are performed through aerotow with our Piper Pawnee.  Saturday is generally our busiest soaring day, although Friday and Sunday provide good opportunities too. Flying usually begins around noon and often continues until the lift stops.
